§ 42 — Power to obtain information

42.—(1) The Registrar‑General may, by written notice, require any person to provide, within the time specified in the notice, any information that the Registrar‑General requires for the purpose of —(a)

ascertaining whether a registrable event has occurred, or the particulars of a registrable event or registered event;

(b)

ascertaining whether a provision of this Act or the repealed Act has been complied with; or

(c)

the performance of the Registrar‑General’s functions under this Act or any other written law.

(2) A person who is given a written notice under subsection (1) must comply with the notice.

(3) A person who, without reasonable excuse, contravenes subsection (2) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month or to both.
