s 2 Interpretation

2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires —“Authority” means the Building and Construction Authority established under section 3; “Board” means the Construction Industry Development Board established under section 3 of the repealed Construction Industry Development Board Act (Cap. 51, 1985 Revised Edition); “Chairperson” means the Chairperson of the Authority and includes any acting Chairperson of the Authority; “Chief Executive” means the Chief Executive of the Authority, and includes any individual acting in that capacity; “construction industry” means the industry concerning the carrying out of construction works and services; “construction works and services” includes all aspects of architectural, engineering, development and construction works and services including such other related production, design and consultancy works and services which result in the construction, maintenance, retrofitting, repair or removal of all types of buildings and infrastructure; “Deputy Chairperson” means the Deputy Chairperson of the Authority; “HDB” means the Housing and Development Board established under section 3 of the Housing and Development Act 1959;[Act 15 of 2026 wef 01/07/2026] “member” means a member of the Authority;[Act 15 of 2026 wef 01/07/2026] “private residential estate” means any area in Singapore that comprises exclusively or primarily residential property, and excludes —(a) any housing estate of the HDB; or (b) common property or open space vested in or under the care, control or management of the HDB or a Town Council;[Act 15 of 2026 wef 01/07/2026] “public agency” means —(a) any ministry or department of the Government or Organ of State; or (b) any body established or constituted by or under a public Act to perform or discharge a public function, excluding a Town Council;[Act 15 of 2026 wef 01/07/2026] “residential property” means any house, building or other premises or any part thereof which is permitted to be used pursuant to the Planning Act 1998 or any other written law as a dwelling house or which is lawfully so used, and excludes any hotel, serviced apartment, boarding house, lodging house, hostel or dormitory;[Act 15 of 2026 wef 01/07/2026] “Town Council” means a Town Council established under section 4 of the Town Councils Act 1988.[5/2018] [Act 15 of 2026 wef 01/07/2026]
