s 20 Power of Registrar to refuse or suspend provisional practising certificate for non-payment of certain sums
20.—(1) This section applies to a lawyer (NP) who applies for a provisional practising certificate, if he or she fails to pay any of the following when the payment is due:(a) the whole or any part of the moneys, contributions and subscriptions payable by him or her under the Singapore Academy of Law Act 1988 or any rules made under that Act; (b) the fee mentioned in section 18(3)(b) accompanying the application. (2) When the Registrar becomes aware of the lawyer (NP)’s failure to make the payment mentioned in subsection (1), the Registrar must —(a) refuse the lawyer (NP)’s application for a provisional practising certificate until the payment is made; or (b) if a provisional practising certificate has been issued to the lawyer (NP) pursuant to the application, order that the provisional practising certificate be suspended. (3) The Registrar must revoke his or her order under subsection (2)(b) when the lawyer (NP) makes the payment mentioned in subsection (1).[Act 37 of 2023 wef 17/07/2024]
