s 55 Casual vacancies
55.—(1) Any casual vacancy arising among the elected members of the Council must be filled with all convenient speed by the Council by the appointment of a person qualified under section 49 as may be necessary, and any such new member holds office for so long as the member in whose place he or she is appointed would have held office. (2) The continuing members of the Council may act provided there is a quorum despite any vacancy in the Council. (3) No act done by or by the authority of the Council is invalid in consequence of any defect that is afterwards discovered in the election or qualification of the members or any of them.
