Article 1
The Agreement between the European Community and the Gabonese Republic on fishing off the coast of Gabon is hereby approved on behalf of the Community. The text of the Agreement is attached to this Regulation.

Article 2
The fishing opportunities fixed in the Protocol to the Agreement shall be allocated among the Member States as follows: (a) Tuna seiners: >TABLE> (b) Surface longliners: >TABLE> If licence applications from these Member States do not cover all the fishing opportunities fixed by the Protocol, the Commission may take into consideration licence applications from any other Member State.
Article 3
The President of the Council is hereby authorised to designate the persons empowered to sign the Agreement in order to bind the Community.
Article 4
This Regulation shall enter into force on the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities. This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States. Done at Brussels, 9 November 1998. For the Council The President J.
