1. Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil is authorised to be placed on the market within the Union. Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil shall be included in the Union list of novel foods set out in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470. 2. The Annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 is amended in accordance with the Annex to this Regulation.
This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
ANNEX The Annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 is amended as follows: (1) in Table 1 (Authorised novel foods), the following entry is inserted: Authorised novel food Conditions under which the novel food may be used Additional specific labelling requirements Other requirements Data protection ‘ Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil Specified food category Maximum levels The designation of the novel food on the labelling of the foodstuffs containing it shall be “ Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil”. Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil as such Pasta-based products 30 mL/100 g Bread and rolls 30 mL/100 g Snacks other than chips (crackers) 30 mL/100 g Salad dressing 50 mL/100 g Fats as defined in Appendix II of Annex VII of Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council ( 1 ) 80 mL/100 g Fine bakery wares 30 mL/100 g Milk-based products (*) 60 mL/100 g (*) When used in milk-based products Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil may not replace in whole or in part any milk constituent. (2) in Table 2 (Specifications), the following entry is inserted: Authorised Novel Food Specifications ‘ Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) oil Description: The novel food is obtained from a pasteurisation of Cyperus esculentus (tiger nut) L. tuber followed by a cold-pressing process.
