Objectives

Article 37

The objectives of the Parties in this Chapter are to: 1. reinforce cooperation in the area of customs and trade facilitation with a view to ensuring that the relevant legislation and procedures, as well as the administrative capacity of the customs authorities, fulfil the objectives of effective control and the promotion of trade facilitation; 2. promote harmonisation of customs legislation and procedures; 3. ensure that legitimate public policy objectives, including those related to security and the prevention of fraud in the area of customs and trade facilitation shall not be compromised in any way; and 4. provide the necessary support for SADC EPA States customs administrations to effectively implement this Agreement.
