Logging and documentation

Article 40

1.   For the purpose of verifying the lawfulness of data processing, self-monitoring and ensuring proper data integrity and security, Europol shall keep records of the collection, alteration, access, disclosure, combination or erasure of personal data. Such logs or documentation shall be deleted after three years, unless the data which they contain are further required for ongoing control. There shall be no possibility of modifying the logs. 2.   Logs or documentation prepared pursuant to paragraph 1 shall be communicated upon request to the EDPS, to the Data Protection Officer and, if required for a specific investigation, to the national unit concerned. The information thus communicated shall only be used for the control of data protection and for ensuring proper data processing as well as data integrity and security.
