Establishment, objectives, scope and duration
Article 1
1. An assistance measure benefiting Mauritania (the ‘beneficiary’) to be financed under the European Peace Facility (EPF) (the ‘assistance measure’) is hereby established. 2. The objectives of the assistance measure are the following: (a) to enhance the capacities of the Armed Forces of Mauritania in the land, air, sea, and medical components in order to ensure security in the country and in the region; (b) to support Mauritania’s land and maritime surveillance and deterrence activities, as well as military operations at the country’s eastern and southern borders, and in its maritime zone; (c) to better protect the civilian population; (d) to contribute to peace and stability in the region. 3. To achieve the objectives set out in paragraph 2, the assistance measure shall finance the following types of equipment not designed to deliver lethal force: (a) individual protective equipment for combatants; (b) medical equipment; (c) a range of multi-purpose aeronautical equipment required for ground services of aircraft; (d) a naval patrol boat. The assistance measure shall also finance related supplies and services, including technical training, where needed. 4. The duration of the assistance measure shall be 36 months from the date of adoption of this Decision.
