SEC. 152. Preservation of the boxes and disposition of their contents. — The municipal treasurer shall keep the boxes unopened in his possession in a secure place and under his responsibility for three months, unless they are the subject of an official investigation or a competent court shall demand them sooner, or the competent authority shall order their preservation for a longer time in connection with any pending contest or investigation. Upon the lapse of said time and if there should be no order to the contrary, the municipal treasurer shall, in the presence of the mayor and two councilors, open the boxes and burn their contents except the copy of the statements of the voting and of the counting of votes deposited therein, which he shall take and keep, and except the unused ballots or in blank which, together with the unused election forms which may be in his possession, he shall send to the Director of Printing for future uses, or to be made into scratch pads for use by the National Government or by the provinces or municipalities which may requisition for them, at cost price.
