SEC. 2. The third paragraph of section seventeen of the same Act is amended to read as follows: "SEC. 17. Appointment and removal of officers and employees—Compensation.— "The engineer of the city shall receive a compensation not to exceed three thousand six hundred pesos a year; the city treasurer-assessor, a compensation not to exceed three thousand six hundred pesos a year; the city attorney, a compensation not to exceed thirty-six hundred pesos year; the chief of police, a compensation not to exceed three thousand pesos a year; the assistant chief of polio a compensation not to exceed eighteen hundred pesos year: Provided, however, That the city council shall determine and fix by ordinance the compensation of such officers and the salaries of other officers and employees of city."
