SEC. 3. Section six of the same Act is hereby amended to read as follows: "SEC. 6. Salary progression from minimum to maximum.—The salary progression from minimum to maximum of the adjusted range shall consist of four steps, each succeeding step to be granted automatically after three years of satisfactory service and shall be implemented effective July first, nineteen hundred and seventy-one: Provided, That the progression from minimum the maximum shall not extend beyond a period of ten years subject to the provisions of Section eight of this Act: And provided, finally, That for public school teachers who have rendered at least ten years of continuous satisfactory service at the time of the approval of this amendatory Act, the period of progression from minimum to maximum shall be reduced to seven years."
