s 66 Registration of contractors and subcontractors

66.—(1) The Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, require all contractors and subcontractors to be registered with the Commissioner and thereafter a person must not act as a contractor or a subcontractor unless the person is so registered.(2) Every application for such registration must be in the prescribed form. (3) Every person so registered under this section as a contractor or subcontractor is deemed to be the employer of the workmen employed by that person. (4) Every contractor or subcontractor who has been so registered and who changes the name under which that contractor or subcontractor carries on business must within 7 days of the change of name apply in writing to the Commissioner for re‑registration and cancellation of the previous registration. (5) The Commissioner may effect the registration of any person under this section and may cancel any such registration. (6) The Minister may make regulations to prescribe the requirements and conditions for registration of a contractor or subcontractor under this section.
