Interpretation.

In this Act— “ the 1975 Act ” means the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1975; and “ the 1990 Act ” means the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Scotland) Act 1990.

Repeals.

The enactments mentioned in the Schedule to this Act are hereby repealed to the extent specified in the third column of that Schedule.

Short title, commencement and extent.

(1) This Act may be cited as the Scottish Legal Services Ombudsman and Commissioner for Local Administration in Scotland Act 1997. (2) Subject to subsection (3) below, sections 1 to 10 of this Act shall come into force at the end of that period of two months which begins with the day on which the Act is passed. (3) The following provisions of this Act— (a) section 8(2) in so far as it relates to subsections (1)(h) and (2A) of section 23 of the 1975 Act; (b) section 8(3); and (c) section 10 and the Schedule in so far as they relate to the said subsections (1)(h) and (2A), to section 24(3A) and (4) of that Act and to the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Scotland) Act 1985, shall come into force on such day as the Secretary of State may appoint by order made by statutory instrument. (4) This Act extends to Scotland only.
