Section 1 Amendment of Coinage Act 1971

(1) In section 1(6) of the Coinage Act 1971 (measurement of variation from standard weight)—

(a) omit “(other than a gold coin of a denomination mentioned in Schedule 1 to this Act)”, and

(b) for “shall be measured as the average of a sample of not more than one kilogram of that coin” substitute “ shall be measured in accordance with provision made by proclamation under section 3 ” .

(2) In section 3(1)(cd) of that Act (power to regulate coinage by proclamation) for “specified in Schedule 1 to this Act for a gold coin of a denomination mentioned in that Schedule” substitute “ for coins ” .

Section 2 Extent, commencement and short title

(1) This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

(2) This Act comes into force at the end of the period of 2 months beginning with the day on which it is passed.

(3) This Act may be cited as the Coinage (Measurement) Act 2011.
