(1) The first ordinary election of members of the Assembly shall be held on a day appointed by order of the Secretary of State and, subject to subsection (2) below, any subsequent Ordinary election shall be held on the third Thursday in March in the fourth year following that in which the previous ordinary election was held. (2) The Secretary of State may, by order made with respect to the second or any subsequent ordinary election of members of the Assembly, appoint as a day for the holding of the election a day not more than two months earlier nor more than two months later than the day on which the election would be held apart from the order. (3) The term of office of any member of the Assembly, whether elected at an ordinary election or otherwise, shall begin on the day on which he is elected and end with the dissolution of the Assembly. (4) No order under this section shall be made unless a draft of it has been laid before, and approved by resolution of, each House of Parliament.
