The application for protection of the traditional term ‘Cream’ is hereby accepted for American grapevine products of category ‘3. Liqueur wine’ provided for in Annex XIb to Regulation (EC) No 1234/2007. The term ‘Cream’ shall be entered into the electronic database ‘E-Bacchus’ as indicated in the Annex to this Regulation.

Summary of the definition or conditions of use

‘Cream’ describes a style of US fortified sweet wine. The wine will be pale yellow to light amber in colour, rich and sweet to taste and typically with a vinous to fruity aroma. However, the wines may reflect the characteristics of careful ageing showing ‘developed’ characters. The wine can be blended from more than one vintage and typically sustaining sweet vinous characters. Ageing takes place in a variety of vessels. Fortification must be from grape spirit.
