Article 1
1. As a method for grading of pig carcases the assessment method for lean meat based on the use of the apparatus 'Ultrasound-Scanner' ('SSD 256'), details of which are given in Part 1 of the Annex, is hereby authorized. 2. The use of all other apparatus for grading pig carcases is subject to the requirement for ensuring that the values of the measurements and assessed results are equivalent to the method mentioned in paragraph 1. To this end the apparatus must satisfy a calibration procedure carried out by the competent German authorities concerning the proof of exactitude of the values of the measurements x1 and x2 as indicated in the Annex. 3. When a pig grading apparatus has satisfied the calibration procedure mentioned in paragraph 2, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany shall inform the Commission before the first use of the apparatus by supplying all necessary particulars. In this case the procedure laid down in Article 25 of Regulation (EEC) No 2759/75 shall be applied.
