s 49 Protection of Government and officers
Neither the Government nor any proper officer or other person employed by the Government in connection with excise shall be liable to make good any loss sustained in respect of any goods by fire, theft, damage or other cause while the goods are in any public excise warehouse or in the lawful custody or control of any such officer or person unless the loss is caused by the wilful neglect or default of that officer or person.
