s 1 Short title, commencement and application
(1) This Act may be cited as the Patents Act 1983 and shall come into force on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint. (2) This Act shall apply throughout Malaysia.

Tajuk ringkas, permulaan kuat kuasa dan pemakaian
(1) Akta ini bolehlah dinamakan Akta Paten 1983 dan hendaklah mula berkuat kuasa pada tarikh yang ditetapkan oleh Menteri melalui pemberitahuan dalam Warta. (2) Akta ini terpakai di seluruh Malaysia.
