Patents Act 1983 s 18
Sections 4–7 were repealed by later amendments.
s 18 Right to a patent
(1) Any person may make an application for a patent either alone or jointly with another.
(2) Subject to the provisions of this Act the rights to a patent shall belong to the inventor.
(3) Where two or more persons have jointly made an invention, the rights to a patent shall belong to them jointly.
(4) If two or more persons have separately and independently made the same invention, and each of them has made an application for a
patent, the right to a patent for that invention shall belong to the person whose application has the earliest priority date.

Hak kepada suatu paten
(1) Mana-mana orang boleh membuat permohonan bagi mendapatkan paten sama ada dengan sendiri atau bersesama dengan orang lain.
(2) Tertakluk pada peruntukan Akta ini, hak kepada sesuatu paten hendaklah dipunyai oleh pereka cipta.
(3) Jika dua orang atau lebih secara bersesama telah membuat sesuatu reka cipta, hak kepada suatu paten hendaklah dipunyai oleh mereka bersesama.
(4) Jika dua orang atau lebih telah membuat reka cipta yang sama secara berasingan dan bebas, dan setiap seorang daripada mereka telah membuat permohonan bagi mendapatkan paten, hak mendapatkan
paten bagi reka cipta itu hendaklah dipunyai oleh orang yang permohonannya mempunyai tarikh prioriti yang paling awal.
