s 20 Powers of members of armed forces
(1) Any commander of any armed forces and any member of the armed forces under his command may when engaged on duty connected with the maintenance or restoration of public order, exercise any of the powers conferred upon a police officer by paragraphs 4(b) and 5(1)(b) and subsection 5(2), section 6, subsections 8(2) and (3), 10(1), 15(1), 17(1) and section 18 in like manner as if references in these sections to a police officer were references to a member of the armed forces of equivalent rank.
(2) The provisions of Chapter IV of the Criminal Procedure Code shall apply to a member of the armed forces exercising powers under subsection (1) in like manner as they apply to bolice officer.
(3) For the purposes of subsection (1)-
(a) "commander of any armed forces" means a commissioned officer for the time being in command of members of the armed forces in the proclaimed area;
(b) a commissioned officer of any armed forces shall be deemed to be of equivalent rank to a police officer above the rank of Sergeant and a Sergeant or Petty officer of any armed forces shall be deemed to be of equivalent rank to a police officer of the rank of Sergeant. Kuasa anggota angkatan bersenjata
(1) Mana-mana komander bagi mana-mana angkatan bersenjata dan mana-mana anggota angkatan bersenjata di bawah perintahnya boleh apabila bertugas berkaitan dengan penyenggaraan atau pemulihan ketenteraman awam, menjalankan mana-mana kuasa yang diberi kepada seorang pegawai polis oleh perenggan 4(b), 5(1)(b) dan subseksyen 5(2), seksyen 6, subseksyen 8(2) dan (3), 10(1), 15(1), 17(1) dan seksyen 18 dengan cara yang sama seolah-olah sebutan dalam seksyen ini mengenai seorang pegawai polis adalah sebutan mengenai seorang anggota angkatan bersenjata daripada pangkat yang sama.
(2) Bab IV Kanun Tatacara Jenayah hendaklah terpakai bagi seorang anggota angkatan bersenjata yang menjalankan kuasa di bawah subseksyen (1) dengan cara yang sama sebagaimana ia terpakai bagi seorang pegawai polis.
(3) Bagi maksud subseksyen (1)–
(a) ―komander bagi mana-mana angkatan bersenjata‖ ertinya seorang pegawai bertauliah yang pada masa itu memerintah anggota angkatan bersenjata dalam kawasan diproklamasi;
(b) seorang pegawai bertauliah mana-mana angkatan bersenjata hendaklah disifatkan sama pangkat dengan seorang pegawai polis yang berpangkat lebih tinggi daripada Sarjan dan seorang Sarjan atau Pegawai Rendah mana-mana angkatan bersenjata hendaklah disifatkan sama pangkat dengan seorang pegawai polis berpangkat Sarjan.
