s 2 Interpretation
(1) In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires— “date of legitimation” means the date of the marriage leading to the legitimation or, where the marriage occurred before the prescribed date, the prescribed date; “disposition” means an assurance of any interest in property by any instrument, whether inter vivos or by will; “intestate” includes a person who leaves a will but dies intestate as to some beneficial interest in his estate; “legitimated person” means a person legitimated by this Act or by any of the written laws repealed by this Act, that is to say—
(a) the Legitimacy Enactment of the Federated Malay States [Cap. 69];
(b) the Legitimacy Enactment of the State of Johore [En. 19 of 1936]; and
(c) the Legitimacy Ordinance of the Straits Settlements [Cap. 85]; “prescribed date” means—
(a) in the case of the States of Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, the first day of January 1933;

(b) in the case of the States of Johore, Malacca and Penang, the first day of July 1936;
(c) in the case of the States of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis, the 23rd day of March 1961; and
(d) in the case of States of Sabah and Sarawak, the first day of January 1972; “will” includes codicil.
(2) References in this Act to Malaysia shall be construed in relation to any time before Malaysia Day as references to the territories now comprised in Malaysia.

(1) Dalam Akta ini, melainkan jika konteksnya menghendaki makna yang lain— “orang disahtarafkan” ertinya seseorang yang disahtarafkan oleh Akta ini atau oleh mana-mana undang-undang bertulis yang dimansuhkan oleh Akta ini, iaitu—
(a) Enakmen Kesahtarafan Negeri-Negeri Melayu Bersekutu [Bab 69];
(b) Enakmen Kesahtarafan Negeri Johor [En. 19 tahun 1936]; dan
(c) Ordinan Kesahtarafan Negeri-Negeri Selat [Bab 85]; “pemberian” ertinya jaminan bagi apa-apa kepentingan mengenai harta dengan apa-apa surat cara, sama ada inter vivos atau melalui wasiat; “si mati tidak berwasiat” termasuklah seseorang yang meninggalkan wasiat tetapi mati tidak berwasiat tentang sebahagian daripada kepentingan benefisial mengenai harta pusakanya; “tarikh pengesahtarafan” ertinya tarikh perkahwinan yang membawa kepada pengesahtarafan itu atau, jika perkahwinan itu

berlaku sebelum tarikh yang ditetapkan, ertinya tarikh yang ditetapkan; “tarikh yang ditetapkan” ertinya—
(a) dalam hal Negeri Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan dan Pahang, 1 Januari 1933;
(b) dalam hal Negeri Johor, Melaka dan Pulau Pinang, 1 Julai 1936;
(c) dalam hal Negeri Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu dan Perlis, 23 Mac 1961; dan
(d) dalam hal Negeri Sabah dan Sarawak, 1 Januari 1972; “wasiat” termasuklah kodisil.
(2) Sebutan dalam Akta ini tentang Malaysia hendaklah ditafsirkan, berhubung dengan bila-bila masa sebelum Hari Malaysia, sebagai sebutan tentang wilayah yang sekarang ini termasuk dalam Malaysia.
