AN ACT AMENDING PARAGRAPHS TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE, TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY-NINE, AND TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FOUR OF CONGRESS OF THE PHILIPPINE TARIFF ACT OF NINETEEN HUNDRED AND NINE, AS AMENDED.

Section 1

SECTION 1. Paragraph two hundred and twenty-nine of the Philippine Tariff Act of nineteen hundred and nine, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows:

"229. Vegetables, preserved, not otherwise provided for:

"(a) In bulk, gross weight, one hundred kilos, one dollar and twenty-five cents.

"(b) In small or retail packages, including weight of immediate containers, one hundred kilos, one dollar and fifty cents.

"Provided, That no article classified under clause (b) of this paragraph shall pay a less rate of duty than fifteen per centum ad valorem."

Section 2

SEC. 2. Paragraph two hundred and forty-nine of the Philippine Tariff Act of nineteen hundred and nine, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows:

"249. Pepper, white or black and pod peppers, dried, including weight of immediate containers:

"(a) Whole, one hundred kilos, four dollars.

"(b) Ground, except paprika, kilo, fifteen cents.

"(c) Ground paprika, kilo, eight cents."

Section 3

SEC. 3. Paragraph two hundred and sixty-four of the Philippine Tariff Act of nineteen hundred and nine, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows:

"264. Malt beverages, and ciders:

"(a) In receptacles containing each more than two liters, hectol, four dollars.

"(b) In other receptacles, hectol, five dollars and fifty cents.

"(c) Cider, hectol, four dollars and ninety cents."

Section 4

SEC. 4. Upon the express or implicit approval of this Act by the President of the United States, as provided in section ten of the Act of Congress approved on August twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and sixteen, entitled "An Act to declare the purpose of the people of the United States as to the future political status of the people of the Philippine Islands and to provide a more autonomous government for those Islands," the Governor-General shall so announce forthwith by means of a proclamation.[1]
