SEC. 9. The first paragraph of section twenty-four of the same Act is amended to read as follows: "SEC. 24. The City Attorney—His powers and duties.— There shall be a city attorney and one assistant city attorney, who shall be the legal advisers of the city. The city attorney shall receive the salary provided for in Republic Act Numbered Eight hundred forty and the assistant city attorney shall receive a salary not exceeding three thousand one hundred and twenty pesos per annum. The city attorney shall have the following powers and duties:"
