s 57 Voting at general meeting
57.—(1) Subject to this Act or in the by-laws, a question referred to the members or delegates present at a general meeting must be decided by a majority of votes. (2) In the case of an equality of votes, the motion is held to be lost. (3) The chairperson has no casting vote. (4) In the case of election or removal of officers, voting shall be by secret ballot. (5) Where it is provided in this Act or in the by-laws that a resolution is passed by at least a prescribed majority of the members present and voting at a general meeting and where the members consist of individual persons and institutions with different voting powers as laid down in the by-laws, the resolution is deemed to be passed if at least the prescribed majority of the total number of votes at the disposal of the members are cast in favour of the resolution.
