In all human communication, information is transferred from one person’s memory
to 1 . No matter how the message is sent, it must arrive in a form that can be 2 ,
retained, and later recalled by the brain. 3 do these three memory processes
function? Before 4 this question, we need to consider the fact that there are two
kinds of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. Psychologists know a
great deal about the former kind of memory, but they know 5 about the latter kind.
Your short-term memory can hold only five to seven items of information such as
five numbers, 6 words, or seven syllables. However, 7 you repeat that
information to yourself over and over again, you will forget it in 8 a minute. This
9 memory is used when you try to remember a name or telephone number that
someone told you a moment ago. Short-term memory 10 an important part in
thinking and understanding.
