s 89 Registration of Muallafs

(1) A person who has converted to Islam may apply to the Registrar in the prescribed form for registration as a muallaf. (2) If the Registrar is satisfied that the requirements of section 85 have been fulfilled in respect of the person, the Registrar may register his conversion by entering in the Register of Muallafs the name of the person and other particulars as indicated in the Register. (3) The Registrar shall also determine the date of conversion and enter the date in the Register of Muallafs. (4) In order to satisfy himself of the fact and date of conversion, and the other particulars to be entered in the Register of Muallafs, the Register may make such inquiries and call for such evidence as he considers necessary, but this subsection shall not be construed as precluding the Registrar from relying solely on the word of the applicant for conversion as far as the fact and date of conversion are concerned. (5) If the Registrar is not satisfied that the requirements of section 85 have been fulfilled in respect of the applicant for conversion, he may permit the applicant to utter, in his presence or in the presence of any of his officers, the two clauses of the Affirmation of Faith in accordance with the requirements of that section.
