SEC. 10. Authority of Officers .and Employees of the Bureau to Make Arrest and Seizure and to Administer Oath and Take Testimony. — Officers or employees of the Bureau may arrest without warrant in a public forest any person who has committed or is committing an act against the provisions of this Code. They may also seize and confiscate in favor of the Government forest products, including tools and equipment used in committing the act. The disposition of seized products, materials and equipment shall be done by the Director in accordance with regulations approved by the Department Head. The Department Head may deputize any qualified person to exercise the power or authority provided for in the preceding paragraph, which shall include the protection of the forest from any form of illegal occupation or destruction. Any person arrested by an officer or employee of the Bureau under the authority herein given shall, if such be reasonable and practicable, be brought before the proper authorities within the period prescribed by existing laws and to be dealt with according to law. Forest officers are authorized to administer oath and take acknowledgment in official matters connected with the functions of their office, and to take testimony in official investigations conducted under the authority of this Code and the implementing regulation.
