s 43 Appointment of Protection Officers
(1) The Minister, after consultation with the Minister charged with the responsibility for women, family and community development may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint such number of Social Welfare Officers or any other public officers to exercise the powers and perform the duties of a Protection Officer under this Act subject to any condition as may be specified in the notification.
(2) The Protection Officer shall—
(a) have control over and responsibility for the care and protection of the trafficked person at the place of refuge;
(b) carry out an enquiry and cause to be prepared a report of the trafficked person as required under this Act;
(c) have the power to supervise the trafficked person upon order by the Magistrate or direction by the Minister; and
(d) have such other powers, duties and functions as the Minister may prescribe.

Pelantikan Pegawai Pelindung
(1) Menteri, selepas berunding dengan Menteri yang dipertanggungkan dengan tanggungjawab bagi pembangunan wanita, keluarga dan masyarakat boleh, melalui pemberitahuan dalam Warta, melantik apa-apa bilangan Pegawai Kebajikan Masyarakat atau mana-mana pegawai awam lain untuk menjalankan kuasa dan melaksanakan kewajipan seorang Pegawai Pelindung di bawah Akta ini tertakluk kepada apa-apa syarat sebagaimana yang dinyatakan dalam pemberitahuan itu.
(2) Pegawai Pelindung hendaklah—
(a) mempunyai kawalan ke atas dan tanggungjawab bagi jagaan dan perlindungan orang yang diperdagangkan di tempat perlindungan;
(b) menjalankan siasatan dan menyebabkan supaya disediakan laporan mengenai orang yang diperdagangkan sebagaimana yang dikehendaki di bawah Akta ini;
(c) mempunyai kuasa untuk mengawasi orang yang diperdagangkan apabila diperintahkan oleh Majistret atau diarahkan oleh Menteri; dan
(d) mempunyai apa-apa kuasa, kewajipan dan fungsi lain sebagaimana yang ditetapkan oleh Menteri.
