For regulation 4 substitute— The Directive: designation of competent authority etc. (4) (1) The GDC is designated as the competent authority in the United Kingdom for the purposes of the Directive relating to practice as a specialist dentist in orthodontics or oral surgery, including the awarding of CCSTs in orthodontics and oral surgery. (2) Accordingly, the GDC shall in the United Kingdom carry out (in particular) the functions specified in Schedule A1. (3) In Schedule A1, “ non-UK specialist qualification ” means a qualification as a specialist dentist in orthodontics or oral surgery that is awarded to a person by a competent authority of a relevant European State other than the United Kingdom.
