The proposed aid, totalling approximately £ 750 000, which the United Kingdom authorities propose to award Carpets International (UK) plc (formerly Abingdon Carpets plc) under the Regional Development Grant scheme in support of the production of polypropylene bulked continuous filament yarn at its site in the Merthyr and Rhymney travel-to-work area, Gwent, is incompatible with the common market within the meaning of Article 92 of the EC Treaty and with the functioning of the EEA Agreement, and cannot, therefore, be paid.
