Section 1Citation and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 (Amendment) Order 2026.

(2) This Order comes into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

Section 2Amendment of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975

(1) The Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 (“ the 1975 Act ”) is amended in accordance with articles 3 to 6 .

(2) The amendments made by articles 3 to 5 have effect from the beginning of 1st April 2026.

(3) The amendments made by article 6 have effect for the period of 12 months beginning with 1st April 2026 and each successive period of 12 months.

Section 3Ministerial salaries

(1) In section 1(2) (Lord Chancellor’s salary) —

(a) in paragraph (a), for “£68,827” substitute “£75,170” ;

(b) in paragraph (b), for “£101,038” substitute “£110,351” .

(2) In Schedule 1 (Ministerial salaries) , for Parts 1 to 4 substitute the provisions in the Schedule to this Order.

Section 4Opposition Leaders’ and Whips’ salaries

In Schedule 2 (Opposition Leaders’ and Whips’ salaries) , for the table in Part 1 substitute—

Section 5Speakers’ salaries

In section 1 (salaries)—

(a) in subsection (3) (speaker of the House of Commons) , for “£75,766” substitute “£82,750” ;

(b) in subsection (3A) (speaker of the House of Lords) , for “£101,038” substitute “£110,351” .

Section 6Alteration of salaries

In section 1A (alteration of salaries), for subsections (1) to (2A) substitute—

(1) For each period of 12 months beginning with 1st April, the annual amount of any salary payable under section 1 is to be increased by the relevant percentage.

(2) The relevant percentage is the average percentage by which the mid-points of the Senior Civil Service pay bands below that of permanent secretary, having effect from 1st April of the period concerned, have increased compared with the previous 1st April.

(2A) But in relation to the period of 12 months beginning with 1st April 2026, the relevant percentage is—

(a) the relevant percentage determined in accordance with subsection (2) , or

(b) if higher, the average percentage by which the mid-points of the Senior Civil Service pay bands (including that of permanent secretary), having effect from 1st April 2026, have increased compared with 1st April 2025.
