The Aircraft and Shipbuilding Industries (Repeals) (Northern Ireland) Order 1993

Section 1 Title and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Industries (Repeals) (Northern Ireland) Order 1993.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the expiration of two months from the day on which it is made.

Section 2 Interpretation

(1) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 shall apply to Article 1 and the following provisions of this Order as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

(2) In this Order

“the Department” means the Department of Economic Development;

“the Order of 1979” means the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Industries (Northern Ireland) Order 1979 .

Section 3 Termination of financial assistance to Short Brothers PLC

No further financial assistance shall be given to Short Brothers PLC by the Department under the Order of 1979 and accordingly in Article 2(2) of the Order of 1979 in the definition of “the principal companies” sub‐paragraph (b) is hereby repealed.

Section 4 Termination of certain duties of the Department under the Order of 1979

The Department shall not, in relation to Harland and Wolff PLC

(a) give directions of a general character;

(b) require information to be furnished to the Department;

(c) review performance;

(d) encourage industrial democracy; or

(e) consult with United Kingdom Government Departments with regard to any measures relating to the co‐ordination of activities between certain companies,

and accordingly Articles 6, 7, 8 and 10 of the Order of 1979 are hereby repealed.
