Section 1 Title, commencement and interpretation

(1) This Order may be cited as the Solicitors (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2004.

(2) This Order comes into operation on the day after that on which it is made.

(3) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 (c.33) applies to this Order as it applies to an Act of the Assembly.

Section 2 Increase in borrowing limit of Compensation Fund

(1) In Schedule 2 to the Solicitors (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 ( NI 12) (the Compensation Fund) in paragraph 4 (power of Law Society to borrow for purposes of the Fund subject to a limit of £100,000) for “£100,000” substitute “ £1 million or such other amount as the Department of Finance and Personnel may by order subject to negative resolution specify ” .
