This order, which may be cited as the Diseases of Animals (Extension of Definitions) Order 1971, shall apply throughout Great Britain.

The Diseases of Animals (Extension of Definitions) Order 1971
(1) In this order—
“ the Act ” means the Diseases of Animals Act 1950, as amended or extended by any subsequent enactment ;
“ brucellosis ” means the disease caused by brucella abortus , otherwise known as epizootic abortion or contagious abortion .
(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 applies to the interpretation of this order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
(1) For all the purposes of the Act, except section 8 (which requires outbreaks of disease to be reported to the police and affected animals to be isolated), the definition of the expression “ disease ” in section 84(3)(a) of the Act is hereby extended to include brucellosis .
(2) Nothing in this order affects the operation of the Epizootic Abortion Order of 1922.
