Section 1

These Rules may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) (Amendment) Rules 1977 and shall come into operation on 11th March 1977.

Section 2

The Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) Rules 1965 as amended , shall be further amended as follows:—

After paragraph (3) of Part I of Schedule 9, there shall be added the following paragraph:—

(4) Notwithstanding the provisions of the foregoing paragraphs of this Part of this Schedule, any liferaft the inflatable chambers or floor of which are made of rubber-proofed cotton—

(a) made on or before 31st December 1965, shall be treated as not complying with the requirements of this Part of this Schedule on or after 1st July 1978;

(b) made on or after 1st January 1966, shall be treated as not complying with the requirements of this Part of this Schedule on or after 1st July 1979.
