The day appointed for the purposes of section 16(1) of the Medicines Act 1968 as those provisions have effect in relation to intra-uterine contraceptive devices by virtue of Article 2 of the Medicines (Specified Articles and Substances) Order 1976 shall be 1st October 1978 for intra-uterine contraceptive devices.

In this order “ intra-uterine contraceptive device ” means any instrument, apparatus or appliance for use by being inserted in the uterus of a human being for the purpose of contraception.
Section 3
This order may be cited as the Medicines (Intra-Uterine Contraceptive Devices) (Appointed Day) Order 1978.
