Section 1 Title

This order may be cited as the Local Government Act 1974 (Commencement No. 3) Order 1978.

Section 2 Interpretation

(1) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

(2) In this order, “ the Act ” means the Local Government Act 1974.

Section 3 Provisions being brought into operation

The following provisions of the Act, namely in Schedule 8, the entries relating to:—

(a) section 97 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949,

(b) section 9 and 12(a) of the Rating Act 1966,

(c) section 8 of the Local Government Act 1966, and

(d) sections 33 to 36 of the Countryside Act 1968

shall come into operation on 1st April 1979.

Section 4 Saving

Nothing in this order shall affect the payment of any instalment payable after 31st March 1979 of a grant under section 8 of the Local Government Act 1966 of which at least one instalment was paid before 1st April 1979.
