Section 1 Citation, commencement and interpretation

(1) These regulations may be cited as the Universities and College Estates Act 1925 (Amendment) Regulations 1978 and shall come into operation on 19th April 1978.

(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

Section 2 Amendment of the Universities and College Estates Act 1925

The Universities and College Estates Act 1925, as amended by the Universities and College Estates Act 1964, shall be amended in accordance with the provisions of the Schedule to these regulations.

Section 1

In paragraphs (i) and (iii) of section 10(1) (regulations respecting mining leases by a university or college), for the word “acreage” there shall be substituted the word “area” .

Section 2

In section 15(1) (power of a university or college to grant land for public and charitable purposes),—

(i) for the words “one acre” there shall be substituted the words “0.40 hectare” ;

(ii) for the words “five acres” there shall be substituted the words “two hectares” .
