Section 1 Citation and commencement

These regulations may be cited as the Social Security Benefit (Dependency) Amendment Regulations 1983 and shall come into operation on 21st November 1983.

Section 2 Amendment of the Social Security Benefit (Dependency) Regulations 1977

(1) The Social Security Benefit (Dependency) Regulations 1977 (“the principal regulations”) shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of this regulation.

(2) In the heading to regulation 3 of the principal regulations (allocation of contributions for wife or children) for the word “wife” there shall be substituted the word “spouse” .

(3) In regulation 3(1) of the principal regulations for the word “wife” in both places where it appears there shall be substituted the word “spouse” .

(4) In regulation 3(2) of the principal regulations for the word “wife” in each place where it appears there shall be substituted the word “spouse” .

(5) In the heading to regulation 8 of the principal regulations (increase of benefit in respect of wife and computation of earnings) for the word “wife” there shall be substituted the word “spouse” .

(6) In regulation 8(1) of the principal regulations for the word “wife” in each place where it appears there shall be substituted the word “spouse” , and for the word “her” there shall be substituted “that spouse's” .

(7) In regulation 8(3) of the principal regulations for the word “wife” there shall be substituted the word “spouse” .

(8) In regulation 11(1) of the principal regulations (contribution to maintenance of adult dependant) for the words “section 44(1), 45(2) or 66(1)(a)” there shall be substituted “section 44(1) and (3)(a), 45(2), 47(1)(a) or 66(1)(a)” ; for the word “wife” in each place where it appears there shall be substituted the word “spouse” , and for the word “her” there shall be substituted “that spouse's or female person's” .
