These Regulations may be cited as the Gas Catalytic Heaters (Safety) Regulations 1984 and shall come into operation on 21st November 1984.

The Gas Catalytic Heaters (Safety) Regulations 1984
In these Regulations—
“ catalytic unit ” means a unit–
which contains a catalytic pad;
into which petroleum gas is injected; and
through which such gas is distributed and oxidised;
“ gas catalytic heater ” means an appliance suitable for use in any dwelling and designed for the heating of space by means of the catalytic oxidation of petroleum gas, being an appliance—
in which the source of the petroleum gas is in liquid form; and
which incorporates a catalytic unit;
“ petroleum gas ” means a hydrocarbon mixture consisting predominantly of butane, butylene, propane or propylene or of any mixture thereof; and
“ unbonded asbestos ” means asbestos which has not been treated by any adhesive or physical process which has resulted in the asbestos fibres cohering together.
No person shall supply, offer to supply, agree to supply, expose for supply or possess for supply—
(a) any gas catalytic heater if the catalytic heater contains any unbonded asbestos; or
(b) any catalytic unit suitable for use in a gas catalytic heater if that unit contains any unbonded asbestos.
