The Wireless Telegraphy (Control of Interference from Fluorescent Lighting Apparatus) (Amendment) Regulations 1985

Section 1

These Regulations may be cited as the Wireless Telegraphy (Control of Interference from Fluorescent Lighting Apparatus) (Amendment) Regulations 1985 and shall come into operation on 29th July 1985.

Section 2

In these Regulations, “ the principal Regulations ” mean the Wireless Telegraphy (Control of Interference from Fluorescent Lighting Apparatus) Regulations 1978.

Section 3

Regulation 2 of the principal Regulations shall have effect subject to the following amendments, that is to say—

(a) for the definition of “BS5394: Part 1 1976” there shall be substituted the following definition:—

‘“ BS5394: 1983 ” means the British Standard Specification for radio interference limits and measurements for luminaires using tubular fluorescent lamps and fitted with starters. BS5394: 1983 published on 31 May 1983;’

(b) for the definition of “the Directive” there shall be substituted the following definition:—

‘“ the Directive ” means Council Directive No. 76/890/ EEC as amended by Commission Directive No. 82/500/EEC ;’

Section 4

For Regulation 6 of the principal Regulations there shall be substituted the following Regulation:—

(1) The insertion loss of the luminaire within the meaning of Clause 3.5 of BS5394: 1983 as measured by the method prescribed in Clause 5 thereof shall not be less than the minimum values relevant to that luminaire prescribed in Clause 4 thereof (being values which are related to the frequencies at which the fluorescent lighting apparatus generates electro-magnetic energy).

(2) In relation to the testing of a luminaire and the minimum values of insertion loss thereof the relevant procedures, requirements and specifications set out in BS5394: 1983 shall be complied with.
