Section 1

The Cheshire County Council (Forrest Way Bridge, Warrington) Scheme 1986 is hereby confirmed without modifications.

Section 2

The said scheme as confirmed (hereinafter referred to as “the Scheme”) is set out in the Schedule hereto and copies of the Scheme with its accompanying plans are deposited at the offices of the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; the Director (Transport), Department of Transport, Sunley Tower, Piccadilly Plaza, Manchester M1 4BE; the Cheshire County Council, County Hall, Chester, and the Warrington Borough Council, Town Hall, Warrington.

Section 3

The Scheme will come into force on the date on which notice that it has been made is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

Section 4

This Instrument may be cited as the Cheshire County Council (Forrest Way Bridge, Warrington) Scheme 1986 Confirmation Instrument 1987.

Section 1

The Council are hereby authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the River Mersey the bridge specified in the Schedule to this Scheme and the plan annexed to this Scheme as part of the highway they are proposing to construct to continue Forrest Way from a point south east of the former Gatewarth Farm in the Borough of Warrington in the County of Cheshire to a point on the opposite bank of the said River close to the north east corner of Arpley Dredging Ground in the Borough of Warrington in the County of Cheshire.

This Scheme may be cited as the “Cheshire County Council (Forrest Way Bridge, Warrington) Scheme 1986”.

Section 1Location

Near Sankey Bridges in the Borough of Warrington in the County of Cheshire.

Section 2Points of commencement and termination

From a point approximately 135 metres from the north western bank of the River Mersey at the end of Forrest Way in Ordnance Parcel 8300 to a point approximately opposite on the south eastern bank of the said River approximately 165 metres north east of the north corner of Ordnance Parcel 1563 (based on Ordnance Survey sheets SJ 5886–5986 and SJ 5887–5987).

Section 3Main spans

20 metres minimum clear span.

Section 4Headway

(a) 10 metres minimum above 5.3 metres AOD Newlyn over a 40 metre width centred on the deepwater channel.

(b) Elsewhere than defined in (a), 8.5 metres minimum above 5.3 metres AOD Newlyn.

Section 5Waterway

As existing but with new support piers/piles at not less than 20 metre transverse centres.

Section 6Construction

The bridge to be a multi span viaduct supported on discrete piers/piles at minimum 20 metre centres across the river channel and floodbanks. No abutments or earthworks shall intrude into the flood area between the flood embankments.
