Section 1 Citation and interpretation

(1) This Order may be cited as the Water Act 1989 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1989.

(2) In this Order, except where the context otherwise requires, references to sections and Schedules are references to sections and Schedules of the Water Act 1989.

Section 2 Provisions coming into force on 7th July 1989

Except insofar as they are already in force in accordance with section 194(2), the provisions specified in Schedule 1 to this Order shall come into force in England and Wales on 7th July 1989.

Section 3 Provisions coming into force on 1st September 1989 or, if later, the transfer date

Except insofar as they are already in force in accordance with section 194(2), the provisions specified in Schedule 2 to this Order shall come into force in England and Wales on 1st September 1989 or, if later, the transfer date.

Section 4 Provision coming into force on 1st April 1990

Subsection (2) of section 79 shall come into force on 1st April 1990.
