The Education (Inner London Education Authority) Schools Designation Order 1989

Section 1

(1) This Order may be cited as the Education (Inner London Education Authority) Schools Designation Order 1989 and shall come into force on 1st April 1990.

(2) In this Order–

(a) “the abolition date” means 1st April 1990;

“ ILEA ” means the Inner London Education Authority;

references to ILEA maintained schools are references to county, voluntary, nursery or special schools maintained by ILEA;

references to ILEA grant-maintained schools are references to grant-maintained schools which were maintained by ILEA immediately before becoming grant-maintained schools; and

(b) the abbreviations used in relation to the names of schools in the Schedule hereto bear the following meanings–

“ CE ” means Church of England;

“ I ” means Infants;

“ JB ” means Junior Boys;

“ JG ” means Junior Girls;

“ JM ” means Junior Mixed;

“ JMI ” means Junior Mixed and Infants; and

“ RC ” means Roman Catholic.

Section 2

The Schedule hereto has effect for the purpose of designating in relation to that inner London council named in each part of the Schedule–

(a) the ILEA maintained schools which it is to be that council’s duty to maintain as from the abolition date; and

(b) the ILEA grant-maintained schools in respect of which functions exercisable by ILEA are to be exercisable instead by that council as from that date.
