The length of trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road as from the date on which the Secretary of State for Wales notifies the County Council of Gwent (who will become the Highway Authority for that length of highway) that the new trunk roads to be constructed in pursuance of the M4/Newport–Shrewsbury Trunk Road A4042 (Relief of Brynglas Tunnels and Malpas Road) Order 1989 have been completed and are open to through traffic.

Section 3
This Order shall come into force on the 20th October 1989 and may be cited as the Newport-Shrewsbury Trunk Road A4042 (Malpas Interchange to Cwmbran Drive, De-Trunking) Order 1989.
