Section 1 Citation

This Order may be cited as the Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No.8) Order 1989.

Section 2 Appointed day

31st October 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Health and Medicines Act 1988:—

(a) in section 8 (retirement of practitioners)—

(i) in paragraph (a) of subsection (1) the words “or section 19 of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978” ;

(ii) in subsection (2) the words “(a) or” in so far as they have effect for the purposes of any list maintained under section 19 of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978( );

(b) section 25(1) (consequential amendments) so far as it relates to paragraph 10 of Schedule 2, and to paragraph 9 of that Schedule to the extent that it has effect for the purposes of that paragraph.
