Section 1

This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping Act 1988 (CommencementNo. 3) Order 1989.

Section 2

The provisions of the Act specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order (which relate to the matters specified in the second column of that Schedule) shall come into force on 1st April 1989.

Section 3

Notwithstanding the coming into force of paragraph 2(b) of Schedule 1 to the Act (which amends section 7 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 by the omission of subsection (2) thereof) the power of exemption given to the Secretary of State by that sub-section shall continue to have effect in relation to any class of ship in respect of which it was exercised immediately before 1st April 1989.
