These Regulations may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 22nd March 1989.

The Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations 1989
The Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Regulations 1978 shall be amended as follows:
(a) for regulation 4 (funerals) there shall be substituted—
(4) Where it appears to an officer of the Royal Ulster Constabulary not below the rank of chief inspector that a funeral may—
(a) occasion a breach of the peace or serious public disorder, or
(b) cause undue demands to be made on Her Majesty’s forces or the police,
he may, where it appears to him to be necessary for the preservation of public order, give directions requiring persons taking part in the funeral to travel in vehicles.
(b) regulation 5 (closing of licensed premises, clubs etc. ) shall be deleted.Northern Ireland Office
